Wizards’ Winning Streak

Up until April 25, the Wizards had won 8 games in a row. That has been their longest winning streak since Michael Jordan played. And it’s not that they have played against only low-ranking teams. Already this season, they have beaten teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Suns, Nets, Jazz, and many others. These wins show how good the Wizards can be when they have a full, uninjured roster. One remarkable strength the Wizards have is coming back from a game, even when down by 10 to 20 points, sometimes to clutch the win.

Currently, the Wizards are in the 9th spot of the eastern conference. When the Wizards have a full roster, they have been able to lead the league in pace, which is vital for because it reflects how much control over the game a team has and gives them the best chance at winning. Clearly, the Wizards are a playoff-ready team and are just getting better.

However, one thing the Wizards have struggled to do over the regular season is efficiently close out games. How many games have there been with 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Wizards in the lead, when something happens. They relax either on offense or defense, which then gives the opposing team a chance to come back during those final minutes and seconds, potentially stealing the win. If the Wizards continue to lose their intensity and focus at the end of games, they will for sure have problems in the playoffs. Still, the Wizards have recently played extremely well, needed even more now that Bradley Beal has been out with an injury.  Let’s hope they win as many games as possible so they can be in the best position to win in the play-offs.
