To all the people who say Drew Brees isn’t one of the top 10 quarterbacks of all time, you are, for sure, wrong. There are only a few naysayers because it’s hard to deny this man’s talent. Sure, some people point out that he hasn’t won multiple Super Bowls. Football is a team sport. Drew Brees isn’t a team. He’s a player. And as a player he was the main reason as to why the Saints were dominant for nearly decade.
Aside from Brees winning the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award in 2010, he also won Best NFL Player ESPY Award in 2010; Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award in 2008 and 2012; Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year Award in 2010; Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2006; Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of Year Award in 2010; Art Rooney Award in 2019; Bert Bell Award in 2009; Athletes in Action Award in 2011; Best Male Athlete ESPY Award in 2010; Best Record-Breaking Performance ESPY Award in 2012 and 2019; Best Championship Performance ESPY Award in 2010; NFLPA Alan Page Community Award in 2011; NFL Honors-FedEx Air Player of the Year Award in 2008, 2009, and 2018; and Maxell Award in 2000. I could go on but don’t want to bore you.
Aside from these awards, there’s no denying what a smart, strong, and durable player he has been, avoiding injuries serious enough to keep him off the field, which at 42 is not something many players who have played in the NFL for that long can say. For sure he will make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He deserves to. Now, us fans have nothing to do but wait to see who the Saints try to replace him with.
